چکیده

The ETNA project explored the audio and video quality requirements for a range of networked realtime multimedia applications. When the project began, there was little applicable knowledge in the human factors community as to the specific audio-visual requirements that different sorts of communicative tasks might demand. The ETNA project showed that these differ according to specific task and user characteristics. A systematic taxonomy was developed which characterised these factors and a wide range of evaluation techniques were developed and applied in novel ways.

The ETNA Taxonomy

An overall aim of ETNA was to introduce new methods for establishing audiovisual quality requirements for a range of real-time multimedia applications. Until recently, there were few HCI-specific methods for assessing audio and video quality and the usability of videoconferencing systems. The taxonomy will address methods commonly used in the telecommunications industry, and explain why these a...

Modelling and Compensation of uncertain time-delays in networked control systems with plant uncertainty using an Improved RMPC Method

Control systems with digital communication between sensors, controllers and actuators are called as Networked Control Systems (NCSs). In general, NCSs encounter with some problems such as packet dropouts and network induced delays. When plant uncertainty is added to the aforementioned problems, the design of the robust controller that is able to guarantee the stability, becomes more complex. In...

A Taxonomy for Networked Virtual Environments

The development of multi-user networked virtual worlds has become a major area of interest in the computer and communications fields. However, there has been little effort to provide a framework for understanding distributed virtual environments (VEs). In this paper we discuss VEs in the context of how network communications, views, data, and processes are distributed while emphasizing those as...

Designinga Neuro-Sliding Mode Controller for Networked Control Systems with Packet Dropout

This paper addresses control design in networked control system by considering stochastic packet dropouts in the forward path of the control loop. The packet dropouts are modelled by mutually independent stochastic variables satisfying Bernoulli binary distribution. A sliding mode controller is utilized to overcome the adverse influences of stochastic packet dropouts in networked control system...
